Imagine a world without oceans, world scorched by the rays of the Dark Sun. World, where mankind has eradicated most other demihuman races. World governed by godlike sorcerer kings whose word is law to everyone from a mightiest templar priest to the lowliest of slaves.
World without gods, paladins or angels. World where the very arcane magic destroys life, but psionics is commonplace. World devoid of metals, water, kindness... but dust, scorching rays of sun and monsters are commonplace.
World of Dark Sun. World of Athas.
I will run a campaign. On IRC. We'll probably start off due next week, as I'm off to a con.
What do I want?
Lvl 1 Characters, made according to rules of:
http://www.athas.org/products/ds3/documents/6You create the characters with a pool of 32 points, but humans and half-elves can add +2 to any score. Also, you can pick Hidden Talent whenever you could take a feat (even if it's a fighter bonus feat, for instance).
You can pick any core class described in the Athas handbook (so, no sorcerers, paladins. Monks and soulknives are prcs now). If you want to choose a non-core class, it must fit the general Dark Fantasy in Postapocalypse world setting.
If it is a spellcasting class, I'll probably forbid it, especially when if they do not have a spellbook. Furthermore, they have to defile and or preserve. Divine classes are discouraged, unless they could fit the setting (renamed shugenja would work, spirit shaman wouldn't). Classes with powerful spell-like abilities (binders, dragon shaman, warlocks) are also more or less out. Martial adepts are acceptable. The only psionic class (except from soulknife) that needs a good explanation to be there is Divine Mind, but you can freely pick Ardent. Wilders, Erudites and Lurks are acceptable.
The only races acceptable are those from Dark Sun handbook (and elans from XPHB if you really want to). Most monster races (orcs, goblins, kobolds) were wiped out by humans. You may play a half-giant or thri-kreen without a class level, but you may encounter difficulties later on to balance this advantage.
As for starting equipment...
You start as slaves in a caravan. Invent a reason why an adventurer might become trapped as a slave.
