Virginity pledges should be done with money, like pledge breaks on public television.

The computer I'm on, she is slow. It takes about 10 minutes to upload a 30 second Youtube video. So I don't even bother with the chat.

Plus I'm a pretty slow-ass typer anyway. And there's no edit button, which is killer on my obsessive compulsive need to edit and add stuff.

Most internet connections have shite upload speeds. Depending on the format of the original file it could take even the fastest of computers ten minutes to upload 30 seconds of video. IRC as a protocol predates the internet even having pictures, and is thus not the biggest of bandwidth hogs.

I never really tried it on this computer, to be honest. I just assumed it would crash the thing.

And I wasn't even a big visitor of chat after a time anyway. It always goes too fast for me to really keep up with.

So when I wasn't paying attention apparently the Gaza Strip exploded. Can someone fill me in on what happened?

Israel decided 3+ months of rockets from Hamas was all they coulds take and they couldn't take no mores.

And now Hamas is all "holy shit you mean rockets make you unhappy?! We didn't know! Stop bombing us!"

To be fair, according to either today's or yesterday's newspaper the Israeli death toll was like 4 and Hamas is losing like 300 to 400.

When are they counting from?

Besides no nation would be all "yeah okay shoot into our borders and target civilian buildings with rocket launchers, that's fine."

Palestine casualties are counting from the 27th. Not sure when the Israeli casualties are counting from, the only numbers I've been able to find puts the death toll from Qassam rockets at fifteen over the past seven years.

Edit: I have yet to find any record of Israeli deaths from rockets or mortars in December 2008. If the death toll is indeed four, it's probably from something else.

Last I heard the death count on Israeli-side was somewhere around three from these recent rocket attacks, could be four too. It wasn't much, that I do remember, single digit at most.

This is sort of my take on it.

Hamas has been poking the bear for all this time, and now everyone's crying bloody murder when the bear gets up and mauls them.

I know the conflict goes a lot deeper than that, but the basic thing is-- Don't fuck with Israel.

If towns in California were getting hit by over-the-border rockets out of Baja, you can be pretty damn sure it wouldn't be months before the US was like "okay, f'r serious, STOP THAT SHIT" even if it wasn't hitting that much.

And Israel is at least doing this in the country/region where the people doing the attacking are actually supposed to be at, so they got that going for them too.

I don't even think Israel cares what anyone from outside Israel thinks, since no matter what they do, Israel is always wrong. The big bad little country always picking on the poor little terrorist groups. All they want is Israel wiped off the map! Is that so much to ask for, Israel?

That's not a paradox, since many of those groups don't want you using condoms or birth control anyway.

I think it's pretty obvious that Israel doesn't really care what anyone else thinks of what they do. If they did, Israel as a country probably wouldn't have been re-established in the first place. It's a quality both to be disliked and admired.

And even forgetting the fact that they're surrounded on all sides by countries who want to blow them up, they're also one of the few countries in that area that doesn't produce Oil. So they don't have the same influence in Washington that, say, the Saudis do, who could do some Lobbyist arm-wrenching against them. So they're well aware that at the end of the day, they're all alone.
